Well Microsoft made an offer to buy Yahoo for US$40 billion,US$31 per share. Yahoo Board of Directors said No - We have a number of investments that hasn’t realized in the market as yet. Microsoft had a tantrum and is now looking at ah hostile takeover - going directly to shareholders. Is this a good thing if Microsoft gains control of Yahoo? Is it a bad thing? Taking into consideration how YH is based on open source platforms for all its development and services and MS is pretty much “you will be assimulated”…its not going to be a good day for YH at all. Both companies are giants in there respective arenas and it will be interesting to see how this possible merger will pan out. Taking into consideration the vast difference in culture as well it might be that MS might just acquire and leave a decent part of Yahoo to do what it normally does. But we haven’t answered the real question…Is this a good thing? I don’t feel it is. The fewer competitors in a market the few innovations. I like me my many options if i feel compelled to go alternative. So we will be left with the Microsoft and Google as the Titans of the net and your phone but we will get to the latter part shortly.

Well its a new year and i have been remist in my blog activities…but honestly..there hasn’t been anything really that interesting talk about of late…..until recently that is…
Apple introduces the MacBookAir (or the MBA as some folks call it).
This is a sweet portable laptop and as with all things Apple I wantie but can’t affordie. Need to find some deep pocket friends who can get me these things as “gifts”…keeping the ole friends of course…
We digress. The MBA is weights in at only 3 pounds and is stated as the slimmest laptop out there right now. The catch? its all wireless. No optical drive, no network port. You want to install anything you either have to buy the external drive or setup remote drives on your PC and/or other laptop for access. Now, if you really think about it you really aren’t losing anything. I don’t use my network card on my laptop at home and the only time i use my optical drive is to burn dvds as backups and that’s on a scheduled basis once a week. Otherwise, I don’t use the thing. Another good feature that should be on all laptops is that the keyboards have a soft backlight. Very handy for the typist and nontypist alike when you are working in the dark. So the MBA is right the alley of most new age tech folks. Did we mention its a sweet ultra cool laptop? Mark my words, this will be the trend for laptops to come. Since we are not biased we have to look at the negative points as some people have been mentioning. The biggest one being the batterry “seems” to only be manufacture replacable so walking with a spare not going to help you here….this is yet to be completely confirmed. The good news is that the standard battery gives 5hrs of wi-fi roaming.
At $1800 you can definitely get a much more powerful laptop (even a MacBook Pro) but it won’t be as cool now would it ![]()

It is that time of year again - the time to reflect on what was, and to look towards the future on what can be. 2007 has been a challenging year for JamaicaFreeWifi and for each and every one of us. At the end of the day, what are we without challenges? Lets us welcome each challenge as they serve to make us better and stronger.
As we go about our daily lives throughout 2008, remember that we don’t have to wait until the end of the year to make our world a better place. It starts with those small actions today. Remember, all great journeys –like the years ahead of us – begin with the thought and that one single step.
Here is hoping that technology makes us better, we get wiser, and richer in every way.
JamaicaFreeWifi would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your support and we look forward to seeing you because this exciting journey has only just begun! Remember to look for us in your community in 2008.
Seasons Greetings!
